Choice and Quality
Do you have a problem with your existing coffee brewer? Are you fed up with luke warm coffee you have to drink quickly before it cools? Are the health and environmental implications of plastic parts in your current coffee maker worrying you? Do the restrictions of coffee pods make you uneasy? Do you yearn for quality coffee that is hot, even when you brewed it an hour ago, and that has a taste to die for?
And are you getting tired of the bland look of so many of your kitchen appliances? Yes? Well, in that case, read on, because....
One of the first things that hits you about the Technivorm Moccamaster is the number of different colors and finishes to choose from. No less than twenty, in all (at the time of writing). From red metallic to royal blue, to polished silver, white metallic, brushed brass, copper, and, of course, black (metallic or matte), and more. First word of warning here - the prices vary according to color and finish, so if that's an issue, better check.
But whatever you choose you're going to be impressed with the solid quality of the build. Just lifting it out of its packaging tells you this product is well made with quality components. Knowing this coffee brewer carries a 5-year warranty and satisfies the strict requirements of the ECBC (European Coffee Brewer Centre), is also good to know. The more so when you've invested around $300 or more.
Lesser coffee makers are made largely of plastic, and often in China. Not so with the Moccamaster. The components are largely aluminum. There's very little plastic, and the all-important boiling element is of copper.
Technivorm and Moccamaster
The Technivorm company was formed in the Netherlands in the mid-1960s with a philosophy of producing long-lasting, reliable, energy-efficient and recyclable products. All products are hand-made in their Netherlands factory and individually tested before being released to distributors.
Apart from the ECBC, the Specialty Coffee Associations of both America and Europe have to be satisfied with the quality of each product as well. And they are.
Technivorm Moccamaster Secrets
What do most of us want from our coffee maker? First, we want delicious, smooth coffee, and the Technivorm Moccamaster gives us that. But we also want it quickly, and with ease. This coffee brewer takes between 4 and 6 minutes to brew from beans to your cup, with a pulse action. That is the ideal saturation time for the hot water to extract the full flavor from the coffee beans.
What about the ease of use? Here, things can't get much easier. There are just two switches - on/off and high/low (the hot plate setting).
The copper boiling element heats the water to 196 to 205 degrees F. The cone-shaped brew basket funnels the coffee into the glass carafe by way of a "destratification tube". This extends to the bottom of the carafe, so stratification, or layering, of the coffee is avoided. The result is a natural mixing action, and a smoothness of taste that has to be experienced to be believed.
When checking the measurements for this machine (40-oz, or "ten cups") bear in mind that they speak in European terms. Their sizes of cup are smaller than in the US, but even so, you have enough for four good sized cups straight away.
And you don't have to hurry your drink. The hot plate, with its own auto-adjusting dual-phase element, will keep the coffee in the carafe hot, at either 176 or 185 degrees F. You choose. It will shut off after 120 minutes - ample time for anyone to empty the carafe in a leisurely manner.
Is It Difficult To Clean?
The Technivorm Moccamaster is a modular coffee brewer. One advantage of this is that you can easily disassemble it, and this helps in the cleaning process. You only have to detach the brew basket and the glass carafe. Everyone knows glass is easy to clean. And drippage down the outside of the carafe only occurs if you try and pour from it too quickly.
Periodically you should clean thoroughly, using one of the descaling powder products that Technivorm recommend. That's a condition of their promise that this product will last as long as you do. And thanks to YouTube there's no excuse for not knowing how to clean a coffee maker.
So the answer is that this coffee maker is very easy to clean.

At the time of writing this product enjoys an outstanding rating on Amazon. It has an average of over 4.4 stars from over 760 reviews. Over three-quarters of reviewers have awarded the full 5 stars. There aren't many products that can boast that.
The main reasons users love this product are that it produces smooth, great tasting coffee, and is simple to operate. The solid build, utilizing aluminum and copper, with only a little plastic, is also popular.
Some have said how expensive it is, but most consider it to be well worth the price. Some have complained about the long power cord, that is also thick (to comply with European requirements). However, this product is wider than it is deep, and so you can store the cord behind it quite easily.
The Technivorm Moccamaster has quality written all over it. This product really will go on and on without complaint. From the unequaled range of colors and finishes to the controlled water and hot plate temperatures, this coffee maker has just about everything. We can recommend this product without reservation.
